Roughly 50 to 60 new LIFE-funded innovations join the platform each year, so the pipeline keeps refreshing itself.
The variety on display is worth pausing on. LIFE WEEELOOP is building a circular system that recovers components from discarded kitchen hobs, aiming to reduce the need for virgin raw materials by up to 90%. LIFE WOOD4PLASTIC is converting sugars and lignin from hardwood residues into compostable bio-plastics, with a goal of avoiding 59 tonnes of plastic waste across its 2024–2027 lifetime. LIFE ABATE is engineering a compact VOC treatment system for waste facilities, targeting 90–95% removal rates by 2027. Each project pairs an environmental impact metric with a defined route to market — which is precisely the pattern investors scan for.
"Circularity needs to go beyond recycling: products should be designed, collected, processed and remanufactured in a way that retains their value within the industrial value chain for as long as possible," Mikel Telleria, LIFE WEEELOOP Coordinator, told the agency.
